Meet Zira - The Stray Kitten Who Chose Us
On a Saturday evening, 7th March 2026, our lives changed when a tiny stray kitten appeared at our door, fresh from our trip back from Wollongong. What started as "just ignore it" turned into an instant love story that brought joy back to our family after losing our beloved 16-year-old Pomeranian, Tyty, the previous July.
How Zira Found Us
My son heard her first - a persistent meow at our doorstep around 6pm. When he opened the door, he immediately ran to his feet and wouldn't leave. The moment I saw his face, I fell completely in love with his cuteness. He was so adorable that I opened the door without thinking twice and let him in.
He knew exactly what he wanted. Meowing and demanding, he made it clear he was hungry. We weren't prepared - no cat food, no supplies - but we gave him bits of our chicken dinner while I rushed to Woolworths to grab emergency supplies: wet food, snacks, shampoo, and flea prevention.
Why "Zira"?
My son named her Zira after one of the anime characters from his CityEvoke business. Since he was the one who found him and the name was perfect.
His First Night
After his emergency Woolies run, we gave him a bath to deal with the fleas. My son was nervous - it was his first time holding a cat, and his sharp claws left a few scratches on his arm. But that didn't stop him from loving him.
We rewarded him with snacks, then made another emergency run to Kmart for a bed, toys, and cat litter. We created a makeshift bed from a box with blankets and my son's used shirt to comfort him. But Zira had other plans - he claimed our sofa and pillow as his own.
My sister woke up, saw him, and immediately fell in love too. No questions about why we got a cat - just "he's so cute."
